Where should HVAC UV light be installed near the evaporator coil?

HVAC UV lights for coil treatment should be mounted in the supply plenum just downstream of the evaporator coil so the lamp has a clear line of sight to the coil and drain pan. This placement targets the damp surfaces where microbes tend to grow and keeps the light from shining into occupied spaces. We install in-duct UV for homes in the Beech Grove area and position lamps for full surface coverage while leaving room for maintenance.

Place the lamp with:

  • Direct illumination of coil surfaces and the drain pan
  • Minimal shadowing from brackets, insulation, or wiring
  • Adequate clearance from plastics and wire insulation susceptible to UV
  • A serviceable mounting point for lamp replacement

Always shut off power and confirm orientation before opening the plenum to avoid eye/skin exposure and equipment damage.
